ELEMENTARY CERTIFICATION
Early Childhood through Sixth Grade (Generalist)

The following courses are required in the given sequence.
Course Requirements:

EDUC 3353—Development and Learning of the Young Child

EDUC 4153— Classroom Management & Organization Elementary /Middle School

READ 3003—The Teaching of Reading

EDUC 4133—Methods of Elementary Language Arts & Social Studies Instruction

EDUC 3133—Methods of Elementary Math & Science Instruction

EDUC 4763—Differentiating Classroom Instruction

Internship/Student Teaching:

Students who secure a teaching position while completing the program will have to enroll in EDUC 4923 Elementary Internship for two semesters. Other students may elect to complete the traditional 12-week student teaching assignment by enrolling in EDUC 4186. Teaching in the Elementary School. Students enrolled in January may enroll for Student Teaching in the fall. Students enrolled in May or August may enroll for Student Teaching the following spring.

Field Experience Requirement:

Students who are not employed as PK-12 classroom teachers or who do not do student teaching while completing the program must show evidence of 40 clock hours of school classroom observations.
