LETOURNEAU UNIVERSITY

EDUCATION STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT POLICY

LeTourneau University is committed to excellence in the Education profession. Prospective educators must be appropriate role models for their peers, as well as the students they will instruct and in so doing, exhibit high moral standards, which exemplify their chosen profession as well as the mission of the university. Students are expected to conduct themselves honestly and responsibly and to respect the rights of others. Conduct that unreasonably interferes with the learning environment or violates the rights of others is prohibited.

Students admitted to the Educator certification programs are expected to abide by all policies and procedures as outlined in the Graduate and Professional Studies Catalogue (http://www.letu.edu/opencms/export/download/GAPS/GAPS_2008-2009_Catalog.pdf) including but not limited to Class Attendance, Academic Honesty and all program requirements. Honesty is a primary responsibility of every LETU student. The following are common guidelines regarding academic integrity:

1. Students will not collaborate on any quizzes, in-class exams, or take-home exams that contribute to their grade in a course, unless the course instructor grants permission. Only those materials permitted by the instructor may be used to assist in quizzes and examinations.

2. Students will not represent the work of others as their own. A student will attribute the source of information not original with himself or herself (direct quotes or paraphrases) in compositions, theses, and other reports.

3. No work submitted for one course may be submitted for credit in another course without the explicit approval of both instructors.

In addition, students are expected to exercise extreme caution when participating in electronic social networking (through entities such as MySpace, Facebook, or YouTube) that might be interpreted as misrepresentative of their profession or the mission of the university. Such activity carries the potential for significant personal and legal risk. Since LeTourneau University has high expectations regarding student behavior, individuals who post questionable material to social networking or other non-university sites may face disciplinary action which may include suspension or expulsion from the program.

Finally, students are required to be familiar and comply with the Statement of Purpose and Enforceable Standards as outlined in the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators (http://www.tcta.org/capital/sbec/codeapproved.htm) as they transition from university classroom to field-based teaching experiences. Students who successfully fulfill all requirements will, upon completion, be recommended for Texas state certification.

Alleged violations of the Code of Conduct will be reviewed in accordance with respective university policy. Please click on the selection below acknowledging that you have read, understand, and agree to this Code of Conduct policy.
